Let's take a walk together
So many times lately I've taken a walk with my dog. My apartment complex has a great big dog park and around the perimeter is a walking path. It isn't as beautiful as this photo but there are many things that center me on Jesus as I am walking around that path. One thing I like the best about this area is that it has become a meeting place. I have met many wonderful neighbors there. All of them dog owners. On rare occasions there are five or six of us in the park at the same time. We talk about our dogs and how silly they are. We catch up and check in. Without my dog I would never have met any of them. How sad is that?
The next thing I like about this place is the crepe myrtle trees, especially when they are in bloom. There are about ten of them in a row on the other side of the fence in the pool area. They are just starting to bloom now and when the wind blows they snow petals from the trees onto my path. It is like a shower of blossoms and my mind sees them as flowers gifted to me from God. I Imagine Jesus shaking the trees as I pass so that I can walk among beautiful flowers. I say a quiet thank you close my eyes and breath in the gentle breeze. It lifts my spirits and fills me with an unusual peace in the solitude of my walk.
There are other times when I Imagine Jesus in my favorite places. The beach is a place where it is easy to see Jesus bending down and picking up a sea shell. Can you imagine everyone designed unique by the Creator. Yes there are a billion clams, but no two exactly the same. The waves even look different as they crash on the sand. I watch the sunset over the water and see Jesus with an artist brush changing the color of the sky with brush stroke after brush stroke. The sky changes as the sun disappears, but even that first dark bit of sky has an amazing deep dark purple blue color that sets the mood for the night as the tiny stars are now visible.
So with this blog, take a walk to your favorite place and Image Jesus showing up with a shower of flowers, a painted sunset, still water on a glassy lake, or even the sound of an eagle overhead. He is there. We spend too much time asking Him for things, when He has given us much more than we need in the simple every day things.
“Be still, and know that I am God;" Psalm 46:20
"The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.”
Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper." 1 Kings 19:11-12
